Turku, Finland/403Previous | Home | NextBeside the cathedral is Brahenpuisto ("puisto" = "park"), also known as Cathedral Park, where stands a statue of Pietari Brahe (1602-1680), the Governor-General of Finland and the first chancellor of the Åbo Akademi. He arrived at the Turku Castle in 1637 and established the Academy three years later. The statue dates from 1888, sculpted in bronze by Walter Runeberg. |
